Background Association of Pediatric Infectious Diseases (ÇEHAD) was established on 30.07.1998 in Bursa. The first congress was held on 2-5 December 1999 (1st National Pediatric Infectious Diseases Congress) in Bursa. Then it was held twice a year, in Adana on 26–29 October 2001 (2nd National Pediatric Infectious Diseases Congress), in İzmir on 07–10 May 2003 (3rd National Pediatric Infectious Diseases Congress), in İstanbul on 11–13 May 2005 (4th National Pediatric Infectious Diseases Congress). In the meantime; a total of (8) Pediatric Infectious Diseases symposiums were held in various cities of the country, namely, 1st Pediatric Infectious Diseases Symposium on 25 December 1998 in Bursa, 2nd Pediatric Infectious Diseases Symposium on 10–12 May 1999 in Adana, 3rd Pediatric Infectious Diseases Symposium on 27–28 April 2000 in Diyarbakır, 4th Pediatric Infectious Diseases Symposium on 12 June 2000 in Isparta, 5th Pediatric Infectious Diseases Symposium on 18–19 January 2002 in İzmit, 6th Pediatric Infectious Diseases Symposium in April-May 2002 in Elazığ, 7th Pediatric Infectious Diseases Symposium on 13–14 May 2004 in Aydın, 8th Pediatric Infectious Diseases Symposium on 28–30 April 2005 in Gaziantep. ÇEHAD will hold (5th National Pediatric Infectious Diseases Congress) on 5–7 June 2007 in İstanbul. The aim of the association is to protect and improve Pediatric health, to take Pediatric vaccinations and immunization programs to the optimum and the most modern level in consideration of local data and facts, to carry out suitable and scientific work in order to prevent and cure Pediatric infection, to give related training to Pediatricians, other doctors, health care personnel and the public. Within this framework, the Association of Pediatric Infectious Diseases organizes congresses and symposiums at national level, presents proposals and defines policies related to immunization and infection control and treatment. ÇEHAD is an association with purely scientific purposes and may not be involved in political activities nor participate in activities other than those aimed at protecting and improving Pediatric health in our country. None of ÇEHAD’s activities are made for profit. Working conditions and working methods that are employed by the association to achieve the goals as defined in the ÇEHAD Charter are summarized below. • To teach the methods of protection before children get sick (parent training), to give training to primary and secondary school students and teachers, to give in-service and post graduation training to supplementary health care personnel (midwives, nurses and health care officers) and doctors (practitioners, doctors and Pediatricians). • To cooperate with the government offices related to these matters. • To cooperate and perform joint work with branches of Medical Schools and Specialist Hospitals involved directly or indirectly in this subject. • To organise scientific congresses, seminars and to make publications, to train the public in cooperation with media organisations in order to achieve the goals. • To talk about vaccination programs and related innovations. • To cooperate with ESPID (European Society for Pediatric Infectious Diseases), of which EU countries are members, and with similar organisations in other countries, to become a member of these councils. • To make information exchange and organise joint meetings with specialists of Pediatric infectious diseases working in Turkey.
